Keyboard shortcuts

A few keystrokes make Initiative faster. The most useful by far is search — if you only remember one, make it that one.

Everywhere

Action Mac Windows / Linux
Open search (Command Center) Cmd+K Ctrl+K
Close a dialog or the search box Esc Esc

On a touchscreen, a three-finger tap opens search.

In task tables

Action How
Sort by a column Click the column heading
Sort by several columns Hold Shift and click each additional heading

Tips that act like shortcuts

  • Search instead of clicking. Press Cmd+K / Ctrl+K and start typing a project, task, or document name to jump straight there — usually quicker than the sidebar. See Search & shortcuts.
  • The recent tab bar along the top works like browser tabs — click to revisit, close when done.
  • Drag and drop to reorder things: tasks between Kanban columns, items in a queue, counters in a group.

Watch the menus

Many actions live in the ⋯ (more) menus on projects, tasks, and documents. When you're hunting for something, that's a good first place to look.
